Looking to repurpose your own piece of jewellery, or design your dream piece?
Would you like to breath new life into a piece of jewellery that you’ve inherited or been gifted?
Do you have a piece of jewellery that holds a special meaning to you?
The Village Goldsmith listens to your ideas, wants and dreams to bring your very own personal piece of jewellery to life. We are an international award-winning jewellery design company that prides itself on design, innovation and dedication to quality and service. With a combined average of 30 years jewellery industry experience, our award-winning craftspeople can turn your ideas into reality.
Inspired by your stories and emotions, your remodelling and custom jewellery items are designed and locally crafted in our onsite Wellington workshop where you can see our creative jewellers at work, so you can be fully involved in the remodelling and re-creation of your precious jewellery.
We listen to your needs, your dreams, and work with you to remodel your jewellery into a new design that not only tells the story of how it came to be and what it represents, but also holds a lifetime of memories through your sentimental precious jewellery. We can use your gemstones and in many cases the original metal to enable you to carry on the story to span generations. Discuss your design ideas with us in person, via email or video call. A custom design is truly that - it starts with your unique ideas and vision for your special piece.
The beauty of the remodelling service is that we work together with you on your piece of jewellery. We take your design ideas, listen to your story and inspiration from the existing jewellery to collaboratively design a new piece. We’ll present you with sketches or models to ensure you are completely happy with your new design.
At The Village Goldsmith we use a combination of the latest technologies and traditional craftsmanship to bring your bespoke jewellery design to life. While many of our remodelled custom designs are entirely handmade, at times a digital CAD of your design is required. We test and refine the design in our CAD software and we can then print a 3D scale model in a special polymer using the latest technology to ensure the design is correct in every detail.
Your piece of jewellery is carefully handcrafted by our experienced and award-winning team of jewellers in our Wellington workshop who take immense pride in their work. The handcrafting process typically begins by removing any gemstones from their settings and then melting the metal to begin the crafting of the new design. The skill and craftmanship of our talented team then come together to turn that metal in to the object of your dreams. The result is a new item that will stand the test of time for years to come.
From first hearing your story, collaboratively redesigning your sentimental jewellery, to finally seeing something crafted by us and passed on to you, to whom it means so much, is one of the most satisfying feelings in the world.
The value and sentimentality of your jewellery is of great importance to us and our commitment to this is forever. We offer a lifetime free checking and cleaning service on your piece. This service is provided on site at our Wellington store, by our experienced manufacturing jewellers and should be completed on an annual basis to maintain your 5-year warranty.
At The Village Goldsmith we believe capturing stories and crafting memories is the true meaning and purpose of jewellery. If you are looking to have your jewellery remodelled, or wish to undertake a custom jewellery project, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We would love to guide you through such a special and meaningful journey.

"Being involved with Village Goldsmith in the design process of a new engagement ring to incorporate stones from both my late grandmother's and my own engagement ring that had worn out was a fascinating and exciting experience. The interactive and collaborative approach taken to designing the look and feel of the ring expertly captured my personality and provided reassurance of working towards a superbly finessed end product. My new ring is stunning and speaks to me of the past, present and future. I couldn't have hoped for a better experience."
- Alexandra, Wellington
What would you do if you lost your sentimental diamond rings that belonged to your late mother, while feeding your horses one evening? Lisa Whiteman almost gave up on finding her rings, until she thought her horse, KiwiKawa, wanted a second dinner, leading her to a bigger discovery.
Liz and Jim came to The Village Goldsmith with their original ring from 1970 - the same ring then used to officiate their marriage in 2019 - asking us to remodel it into something new. They wanted the significance of bees to be represented in their love story, and therefore in their wedding rings. The outcome was a gorgeous pair of uniquely patterned rings that represent their enduring love for one another.
We worked remotely with couple Reagan and Will in the South Island to remodel Reagan's existing diamond solitaire engagement ring, combining the diamonds from her wedding ring, and New Zealand Pounamu from the Marsden River, into a beautiful and meaningful ring design which represents the couple's love story and important milestones they've achieved together.
Having a ring passed down through generations is such a special and treasured sentiment, particularly when you can use the sentimental gemstones to design your perfect engagement ring. Josh and Marcie came to us for this exact reason, they wanted to find out more about how they could achieve this, and we were more than happy to share our expertise and help them with their project.
When a potter whose trademark style can be described as organic, asymmetrical and contemporary, is getting married, you can bet their wedding ring will be anything but straight, sleek and traditional. Our master jeweller, Ben, was given the opportunity to remodel avid potter Nicky’s existing rose-cut diamond ring, into an extraordinary wedding ring design.
