Argyle Diamond, Pink Diamond Ring

Argyle pink diamonds originate in the east Kimberley region of Western Australia. The Argyle mines, owned by Rio Tinto, produce 90% of the world’s pink diamond supply, however of the resulting stock from a years mining, the stones of over half a carat in size, would fit in the palm of your hand. The Argyle Diamond mine is the world's primary source of rare pink diamonds which attract on average 20 times the price of an equivalent white diamond.

Pink diamonds are incredibly rare and in fact it is surmised that there is only a decade of pink diamond stock available to be mined. Pink diamonds are highly sought after by jewellers and their clients. With a reducing supply, they are becoming more valuable. Their unique provenance, intrinsic beauty and increasing rarity make them increasingly more valuable.

Exactly what gives pink diamonds their colour is still largely unknown, it is thought that as the pressure underground pushes the pink diamonds to the earth’s surface the diamond structure becomes altered allowing it to absorb light which in turn produces the remarkable pink colour.

Argyle has created a grading system for their pink diamonds based on colour, they range from red to pink, purplish pink, to pink rose, pink champagne and violet. All Argyle pink diamonds are 100% natural in colour and clarity, nothing is done to alter them.
