The Looks and The Charm

A journey from Kenya to our workshop, via a leading NZ wine maker... Behind this beautifully balanced, natural colour, rhodolite garnet lies an intriguing story.

The Umba river flows through the north-eastern mountain ranges of Tanzania and across Kenya, before meeting the Indian Ocean. This area is renowned for some of the world’s richest deposits of colored gemstones. It was in the Umba riverbed that this rhodolite garnet stone was found and purchased in its rough form by Neil McCallum, gemstone enthusiast, trader and cutter.

The Ring

This ring is crafted in 18ct yellow and white gold and features an 11.79ct natural colour rhodolite garnet in an open four claw setting. The garnet is framed by two D colour, VVS2 clarity, heart shaped diamonds, totaling 1.026ct. These diamonds transition the eye nicely into the band, and with the claws set in the crest of the heart, give the visual appearance of wider pear shaped diamonds.
