It’s the reason The Village Goldsmith founder, Ian Douglas, began crafting jewellery in the first place, over 40 years ago.

"After sadly having to return my first engagement ring with another jeweller due to continuous faults I was sceptical about shopping for another ring. I would pop into chain store jewellers randomly for a quick look and be bombarded with questions and 'sales' and package 'deals', but it all felt fake, like I was being tricked. I first walked past The Village Goldsmith on a Wellington weekend away thinking, oh, I can't go in there it looks too flash and expensive. But it got to the point where price wasn't a determining factor anymore and I wandered in. After a few minutes of peace and browsing time we were greeted by Georgina. She was super understanding of our venture and really down to earth. I tried on a few items, but fell in love with a ring that was just out of my price range.
